About the blog

Based on Beige is a modern diary for the art of simple living written by Lisa Rosen. It’s a lifestyle destination built on intentional, thoughtful living. By taking time to appreciate the beauty in simple moments, Based on Beige celebrates life as a blank canvas that can be painted confidently with each brush stroke.

beige (noun) - mid 19th century (denoting a usually undyed and unbleached woolen fabric of this color): from French, of unknown ultimate origin.

About the author

I grew up in Los Angeles, California. During my childhood, I spent summers on my family’s farm in Norway where traditions were focused on sustainable living. In 2013, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Film. Over the last 5 years, I traveled around the world shooting shows as a television producer.

As a method of slowing down my fast paced lifestyle, I discovered a more natural way of living through a minimalist approach. I found a tiny 350 sq. ft. studio apartment in Santa Monica and started practicing the sustainable methods that I learned from my Norwegian ancestors. I’m no expert, just an advocate for simple living to find balance and purpose in our lives.

“Minimalism is not a style, it is an attitude, a way of being. It's a fundamental reaction against noise, visual noise, disorder, vulgarity. Minimalism is the pursuit of the essence of things, not the appearance.”
